Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 7: Why this season is boring

Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa has been a favourite television reality show. It follows the Indianised format of BBC's Strictly Come Dancing and ABC's Dancing with the Stars, wherein one celebrity contestant is paired up with a professional dance partner. Currently in the seventh season of the reality show, and almost a month down the show is being aired every week. However, the show has been amidst a lot of controversy. And as far as TVPs are concerned, the once popular show has not been able to catch up on numbers this time. We take you through reasons that might have led to the show’s low popularity.

Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 7: Why this season is boring

Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa season 7 failed miserably as far as its hosts are concerned. Last year the popular Jodi of, Kapil Sharma and Manish Paul were hosting it. However to bring in some change, the makers roped in the very popular Dhrashti Dhami and fresh from Fear Factor – Ranvir Shorey. However a few weeks down the line, the duo failed to bring out a spark on the show leading to Dhrashti's exit from the show. From the previous season Manish Paul was brought back. All of this caused a lot of stir as Dhrashti has a huge fan following.

Apart from the controversial hosts of this season, nothing seems to have changed much. Madhuri Dixit, Remo D’souza and Karan Johar have been judging Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa since a long time now. This trio has been sitting on the judge’s panel for three seasons now. And there might be a possibility that the audiences may be bored with the same old judges and their same old reactions. A bit of innovation was brought in with Remo, Madhuri and KJo shifting from their usual punch-praise lines. However seeing the same lot time and again might have become very repetitive for the audiences.

This year’s list of contestants too was not very impressive. Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa is always known to spice up the show with a mix of contestants, but it seems like the mix didn’t work quite well this time. Bollywood’s presence on the show was restricted only to names like Purab Kohli and Sophie Choudry, whereas maximum names dominating the show have been television celebrities. While they did try to bring in some humour with Kiku Sharda and VJ Andy, it might become too repetitive for the audiences. Also Sreesanth who is known to be very swift with his moves exited the show very soon.

While it not just the judges who are being repeated, but even the professional dancers. The special choreographers who are roped in every season to dance with the celebrities are also the same. Well known dancers like Suchitra, Shampa and Puneet among others have been retained for this new season of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa. Probably it is time that the makers played it up with the choreographers too, bringing in new talent and different faces for the audiences. This year their very popular choreographer, Salman Yusuff Khan was also not a part of the show in capacity of a choreographer.
