Despite economic gloom, India's richest haven't held back on purchases ranging from holidays to new homes
Luxury car sales in India were down through 2020, but that wasn’t a problem for Mercedes Benz when it launched a model priced at Rs 3 crore this year. The carmaker registered sales worth Rs 150 crore in just four weeks from the super luxury Maybach GLS SUV, and it’s just the latest indicator that in spite of the pandemic and economic slowdown, India’s ultra-rich haven’t stopped indulging themselves.
“Most of the guys who bought the car are celebrities, including people from the film industry, cricketers, apart from the business tycoons,” said Santosh Iyer, VP (sales & marketing) at Mercedes-Benz India.
