Officials said the soldier, identified as S Srinivas of Telangana, was on duty at Army’s 226 Field Unit in Boniyar area of Uri sector when he killed himself using his service weapon. Upon hearing a gunshot, his colleagues rushed to the spot to find Srinivas lying in a pool of blood.

A police officer confirmed the suicide, adding that a case has been registered in this regard and further investigations are underway.
