Delhi's AQI dropped to 'very poor'

Akshardham Temple, a day after Diwali festival celebrations, in New Delhi as a thick layer of haze blanketed the national capital's AQI plunging to 362. The air quality at most of the city's 40 monitoring stations stayed in the "very poor" range, with Anand Vihar and RK Puram recording the highest AQI levels at 395 as per SAFAR India.

Diminished visibility

A train runs over a bridge on the Yamuna river, in New Delhi. The continuous bursting of firecrackers enveloped Delhi in thick smoke, lowering visibility. The AQI readings were 395 in Anand Vihar, 352 in Aya Nagar, 390 in Jahangirpuri, and 376 in Dwarka, indicating significant health risks.(PTI)

Ajmer covered in Diwali haze

Ajmer also woke up to a dense layer of smog, a day after Diwali celebrations. The lingering pollutants from firecrackers and festival activities created a hazy atmosphere, reducing visibility and impacting air quality. Toxic foam floating on Yamuna

Yamuna river covered in pollutants. Residents and political leaders have also voiced concerns over pollution after toxic foam was spotted on the Yamuna River near Kalindi Kunj. The Delhi Jal Board has been conducting cleaning operations and spraying chemicals into the river since last week in an effort to control the foam.

Mumbai air turns more toxic

Mumbai's air became toxic after firecrackers were set off on Friday night. A humid, windless day allowed smoke and dust to linger in the atmosphere, leading to thick smog. On Diwali, the city's average PM2.5 levels soared to 79 micrograms per cubic meter, exceeding the recommended limit of 60.(TOI)

Mumbai engulfed in smog

A view of the high rise buildings in Bandra Reclamation area are barely visible. Similar to the national capital, Mumbai residents complained of being unable to see anything or breathe properly due to the smog and said that every year after Diwali, Marine Drive is completely covered in smog.

A better Diwali air for Patna

Patna, in the heart of Bihar witnessed less polluted Diwali than last, with an ambient air quality index (AQI) remaining in poor category at 230 as compared to very poor at 333 in 2023, as per Bihar State Pollution Control Board (BSPCB).
