Shaheen Bagh shooter joins BJP, removed hours later

Hours after inducting him into the party, the BJP on Wednesday cancelled the membership of Kapil Gurjar, the man who had fired shots near the anti-CAA protest site in Delhi's Shaheen Bagh. "Kapil Gurjar was part of a group of BSP workers who had joined BJP today. We had no knowledge about his association with the Shaheen Bagh issue," Ghaziabad BJP president Sanjeev Sharma said.

NEW DELHI: Hours after inducting him into the party, the BJP on Wednesday cancelled the membership of Kapil Gurjar, the man who had fired shots near the anti-CAA protest site in Delhi's Shaheen Bagh.
"Kapil Gurjar was part of a group of BSP workers who had joined BJP today. We had no knowledge about his association with the Shaheen Bagh issue," Ghaziabad BJP president Sanjeev Sharma said.

Earlier today, Gurjar joined the BJP in Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad in the presence of senior local leaders. The move to induct Gurjar invited strong reactions on social media, with opposition parties targeting the BJP.
On February 1 this year, Gurjar fired two rounds in the air at Shaheen Bagh during the anti-CAA protest. He was arrested and is out on bail in the case.
