SC queries Guj on shifting out Johri
NEW DELHI/AHMEDABAD: The Supreme Court has asked the Gujarat government to take the probe into the fake encounters to its logical conclusion by May 15 and let the court know about the results by compiling a 'final status report'. The seven-page interim order of the court had considered the pros and cons of the demand, before deciding to give the state government a fortnight during which it can be determined whether it meant to make good its promise of an unbiased probe.
Another factor which perhaps weighed with the Bench was the considerable progress made by the state police in the investigations leading to the arrest of three police officers — DIG Vanzara, SP Rajkumar Pandyan (both Gujarat) and Dinesh M N (Rajasthan).

Taking on record the latest Action Taken Report, which categorically recorded the involvement of the Andhra Pradesh Police in the operation leading to the fake encounter, the Bench said: "The state of Gujarat is directed to submit the final status report within two weeks."
The shifting out of Johri who had conducted the preliminary inquiry nailing the three officers did not miss the attention of the court. Seeking an explanation in this regard from the Modi government, the Bench said: "Now, an allegation has been made that she has been taken off the investigations for some reasons. The state of Gujarat is directed to submit a report in this regard too."
