JAIPUR: History was made in
Rajasthan high court on Friday with the appointment of Shubha Mehta as a judge, whose husband Justice Mahendra Goyal is already a judge in the same HC. This is a first in Rajasthan HC where both husband and wife will be judges.
The ministry of law and justice announced Friday the appointment of Mehta and Kuldeep Mathur as judges of Rajasthan HC.
Mehta has been appointed from the Rajasthan Judicial Services (RJS), while Justice Goyal became a judge from the lawyers’ quota on November 6, 2019.
Mathur also comes from the lawyers’ quot a. “The President of India is pleased to appoint Kuldeep Mathur and Shubha Mehta to be judges of the Rajasthan high court in that order of seniority. . . ,” a ministry notification said.
The number of judges in the HC is now 27—still below the sanctioned posts of 50.
