Punjab to roll out monthly aid for women under Mawan Dheeyan Satkar Yojna from July 1
Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann on Friday announced that eligible women across the state will begin receiving financial assistance under the Mukh Mantri Mawan Dheeyan Satkar Yojna from July 1. The scheme aims to strengthen women’s financial independence and ensure dignity and self-respect.
Under the initiative, eligible women will receive Rs 1,000 per month, while those from the Scheduled Caste category will get Rs 1,500. Funds will be transferred directly to bank accounts, and beneficiaries of existing social security pensions will also be covered. The state has allocated Rs 9,300 crore for the scheme, which is expected to benefit around 97% of women in Punjab.
Highlighting its social impact, Mann said the assistance may not make women wealthy but will enhance their dignity. He emphasised that empowering women financially is key to improving household welfare, promoting gender equity and increasing participation in decision-making.
Registration has begun across the state, with lakhs of women enrolling daily. Around two lakh Mahila Satkar Sakhis have been tasked with registering beneficiaries, with enrolment taking place through Anganwadi centres, Sewa Kendras and other designated locations.
The chief minister said the initiative would play a key role in empowering women and enabling them to lead their lives with confidence and dignity.
