Punjab Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Total seats, schedule, candidates list, date of voting, result, main parties

The Election Commission of India (EC) announced that Lok Sabha elections in Punjab will take place in a single phase on June 01. Counting of votes will be done along with all other states on June 4.

Total Seats
Punjab has 13 Lok Sabha seats, with four reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC) candidates and the remaining nine unreserved.

These are Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Khadoor Sahib, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Anandpur Sahib, Ludhiana, Fatehgarh Sahib, Faridkot, Firozpur, Bathinda, Sangrur, and Patiala.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, the INC-led UPA alliance won eight seats, while the NDA secured four. The Aam Aadmi Party, in its debut, won one seat.

The counting of the votes will be done collectively across the nation on June 04, 2024.

Main Parties
Indian National Congress (INC), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP), Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) are some of the major parties in the state. In 2019, the INC-led UPA alliance won eight seats, while the NDA won four. The Aam Aadmi Party, in its debut, secured victory on one seat.

In the state assembly, AAP clinched a sweeping victory by winning 92 seats out of 117 with Bhagwant Mann as chief minister.

Notable candidates

BJP has fielded Congress turncoats Ravneet Singh Bittu from Ludhiana and Preneet Kaur from Patiala. It has also given ticket to AAP’s lone Lok Sabha MP Sushil Kumar Rinku, who joined the party on March 28, from Jalandhar.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has released two list of candidates for the 2024 Lok Sabha election in Punjab including five cabinet ministers.
