NEW DELHI: PM Manmohan Singh will next week have an interaction with Muslim leaders, including ulema and opinion-makers, in an attempt to ensure their support in the fight against jehadi terrorism.
After his repudiation of Pakistan's role in abetting terrorist activities in his Independence Day address, Singh will seek to isolate Islamic extremism by holding a dialogue with the Muslim intelligentsia and religious leadership on August 20-21.

Being organised by Jamiat Ulema-i-Hind, the two-day meet is being billed as an initiative to discuss the aftermath of the "increased threat posed by terrorism". Prominent Muslim clerics and Islamic scholars from different parts of the country will participate in the meet.
What lends the conference special significance is its professed objective to focus on the role of the ulema and Islamic institutions in "tackling the menace of terrorism", a Jamiat spokesman said. The role of the madrassa teachers in confronting the terrorist threat will also come up discussion.
For a government beset with the recurring terrorist attacks, the initiative has come as good news. Apart from the PM, a number of senior cabinet ministers Shivraj Patil, Arjun Singh, A R Antulay, P R Dasmunsi will participate in the dialogue with the Muslim opinion-makers.
clerics from Hyderabad, Lucknow and Deoband will take part in the meet. The meet is also likely to take up for discussion the role of the media in dealing with terrorism and terror-related issues.
