Yemen Supreme Court rejects Nimisha Priya's appeal​

Nimisha Priya was found guilty of the murder of Talal Abdo Mahdi, who passed away in July 2017 after she administered sedatives to retrieve her passport from his possession. Unfortunately, he succumbed to an overdose and passed away.

Priya's mother seeks Delhi High Court approval to negotiate 'Blood Money' ​

​Earlier this year, Priya's mother approached the Delhi High Court, seeking approval to journey to Yemen despite the travel ban on Indian nationals. Her aim is to negotiate the payment of "blood money" as compensation to save her daughter. "Blood money" denotes compensation offered by an offender or their relatives to the victim's family.

Hanan receives life imprisonment for dismembering Mahadi's body​

​Priya and her colleague Hanan, who is a Yemeni national, allegedly dismembered Mahadi's body before disposing of it in a water tank. In 2018, Priya received a death sentence, while Hanan was handed a life imprisonment sentence.

Relaxation in travel ban likely​

​As the parent of an eight-year-old, Priya had been employed in Yemen's Sana'a since 2011. On Thursday, the attorney representing the Centre stated that, as per a recently issued notification, there could be a relaxation in the travel ban, potentially permitting Indian nationals to travel to Yemen for specific purposes and durations.

High Court rejects blood money negotiation, advocates legal recourse for Nimisha Priya​

The high court had previously declined to instruct the Centre to engage in negotiations for the payment of blood money to secure the woman's release. Instead, it directed the Center to pursue legal avenues to address the conviction in Yemen. In the preceding petition, it was claimed that Mahdi had falsified documents to indicate marriage to Priya and had subjected her to instances of abuse and torture.
