NEW DELHI: The Election Commission announced on Tuesday that the polling for the Karanpur assembly seat in Rajasthan, which was 'adjourned' due to the demise of Congress candidate Gurmeet Singh Kooner, who was the sitting MLA, will now take place on January 5, 2024.
The counting of Karanpur assembly seat votes is scheduled for January 8, as per the poll panel's statement.
Nomination submission will start from December 12 and the last date of filing nomination is December 19. Scrutiny will be held on December 20 and the names can be withdrawn by December 22.
Polling for 199 out of the 200 Assembly seats in Rajasthan had occurred on November 25. The results for the same were declared on December 3, with BJP emerging victorious, securing 115 seats out of the 199 contested.
Congress, with 69 seats, was unable to break the state's three-decade pattern where voters consistently reject the ruling party.
