65% turnout recorded as first phase of polling concludes

A voter turnout of 64.86 per cent was recorded in the 43 assembly constituencies in Jharkhand where polling was held in the first phase on Wednesday. Lohardaga district topped the list with 73.21 per cent polling while Hazaribag district recorded the lowest at 59.13, officials said and added that polling continued till 5 pm.

'Great festival of democracy': CM Hemant Soren after casting vote

Jharkhand chief ninister Hemant Soren, accompanied by his wife and MLA Kalpana Soren, cast their votes atRanchi's Saint Francis School in Harmu.


“Today is the great festival of democracy. I urge every citizen to come forward and strengthen our democratic system by exercising their franchise,” he said after casting his vote.

'We have to save land from infiltrators': Champai Soren

BJP candidate Champai Soren highlighted the issue of infiltration in Jharkhand and said that they have to save the land of Sidho-Kanho and Santhal from Bangladeshi infiltrators.



"We have to save the land of Sidho-Kanho and Santhal from Bangladeshi infiltrators...There is no doubt that BJP will form the government in Jharkhand...Some of the main issues before us are Bangladeshi infiltration, unemployment and irrigation,"said the former CM.

'JMM wants to keep Jharkhand in the clutches of poverty': Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said, "We have not written our election manifesto overnight. We took ideas from the governance model of BJP-governed states, talked to the people of Jharkhand, and took 4-5 months of extensive deliberations before drafting our manifesto. Money won't be a problem for us in Jharkhand. The state has been blessed with natural resources.JMM wants to keep Jharkhand in the clutches of poverty, but it has the potential to be the most prosperous state of the country."

Rajasthan bypoll candidate slaps SDM amid voting dispute

Meanwhile, an Independent candidate contesting in Rajasthan bypolls, allegedly slapped Malpura sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) following a dispute over voting at a polling booth in Deoli-Uniara constituency on Wednesday.


The incident was caught on camera in which Naresh Meena, a Congress rebel, was seen assaulting SDM Amit Chaudhary.

A day after her wedding, Khushi, a newly-married woman from Dausa district casted her vote in the assembly bypoll before attending her farewell rituals.


"My wedding ceremony took place yesterday, and today, before the farewell rituals, I came to cast my vote. Voting is very important, and everyone should vote," Khushi said.
