NEW DELHI: During Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez's ongoing visit to India, both nations have unequivocally condemned terrorism and violent extremism in all its forms, including the use of terrorist proxies and cross-border terrorism, and called for action against groups such as Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Muhammed (JeM).
According to a joint statement, PM Modi and Sanchez agreed that terrorism remains a serious threat to international peace and stability, and called for bringing the perpetrators of all terrorist attacks to justice without delay.
"They urged all countries to take immediate, sustained and irreversible action to prevent territory under their control from being used for terrorist purposes, and stressed the need for firm implementation of relevant resolutions of UNSC, as well as the implementation of UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy," said the statement.
Modi appreciated Spain's multi-lateral initiatives in support of the victims of terrorism and their empowerment. "They also called for concerted action against all terrorist groups proscribed by UNSC including al-Qaida, IS/Daesh, LeT, JeM and their proxy groups," it added.
Among other issues, they reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening India-EU Strategic Partnership and to advancing EU-India triple negotiations of comprehensive free trade agreement, investment protection agreement, and geographical indications agreement. The leaders also agreed to enhance their collaboration to fully realise the objectives of EU-India Connectivity Partnership, and recognised the potential of India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor Project.to boost connectivity between India and Europe.
