India, Russia hold high-level Army talks to bolster military cooperation
NEW DELHi: Indian Army and Russian forces have held discussions to further deepen their military partnership at the 5th sub-working group (land) meeting.
Sharing details on X on Saturday, Indian Army said the “meeting under the India–Russia Inter Governmental Commission (IRIGC) on military and military technical cooperation concluded successfully, marking another significant milestone in strengthening defence ties between the Indian Army and the Russian land forces”.
The post added, “Both sides held productive deliberations aimed at enhancing mutual learning, operational synergy and bilateral military capabilities, further reinforcing the longstanding India-Russia defence partnership.” As per Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADGPI), the delegation also visited Shatrujeet Brigade to explore additional avenues of defence cooperation.
During his visit to India earlier this month, Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov had revealed that Moscow and New Delhi have engaged in “detailed discussions” spanning the high-stakes sectors of defence manufacturing, space exploration and fertiliser cooperation. He also confirmed that the roadmap for future collaboration includes joint production of weapons and greater collaboration in space sector.
A pact allowing India and Russia to station 3,000 troops and a limited number of naval ships and aircraft in each other’s territory has already come into effect since Jan 12 this year. The pact was signed between New Delhi and Moscow in Feb last year.
