Dense to very dense fog to shroud north India for 3 more days: IMD

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted dense to very dense fog conditions in North India for the next three days. Cold day to severe cold day conditions are expected in the plains of North India for the next two days, along with a cold wave to severe cold wave. Minimum temperatures are below normal by 1 to 4 degrees Celsius in many parts of northwest and adjoining east India.

​Delhi faces fight disruption amid fog

Delhi witnessed more than 100 flight delays on Sunday, and operations gradually resumed on Monday morning, according to an unnamed airport official. On Monday, 313 departing flights faced delays, while 82 were canceled. The persistent dense fog and cold weather disrupted flight services in New Delhi for the second successive day, impacting a sizable area in the northern region.

Meanwhile, a passenger hits IndiGo pilot at Delhi airport over flight delay, arrested

A passenger on an IndiGo flight was arrested for assaulting a pilot during an announcement about a delay at Delhi airport. The incident, captured in a video, led to a flight delay of over 10 hours. IndiGo stated the passenger assaulted the co-pilot, leading to referral to a no-fly list and an internal committee investigation. Charges include assault, wrongful restraint, and creating public nuisance.

Unruly passenger behaviour unacceptable, says Scindia

Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia condemned the assault on the IndiGo pilot, emphasizing that unruly passenger behavior is unacceptable. Scindia assured that stakeholders are working to minimize the impact of fog-related challenges and stressed that legal provisions will be strongly enforced against disruptive behavior.

18 Delhi-bound trains running late as fog impacts visibility

Dense fog in North India has caused delays in 18 Delhi-bound trains. Several trains, including the Katihar-Amritsar Express and Hyderabad-New Delhi Express, are facing delays of up to six hours. The IMD reports visibility below 200 meters in various regions, with very dense fog in parts of Punjab, West Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, and Sikkim.

Schools in the national capital reopen with revised timings due to cold

Schools in Delhi reopened for physical learning, including nursery and primary classes, with revised timings of 9:00 am-2:00 pm due to winter challenges and fog. Students express difficulties in reaching school early due to the weather. Delhi schools had closed briefly last week due to severe fog conditions. Uttar Pradesh's Gautam Buddh Nagar also closed schools up to standard 8 until January 16 due to dense fog and low visibility. Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 3.3 degrees Celsius, and the India Meteorological Department reported dense to very dense fog in various regions.
