Election Results 2026 Live Updates: 'Some in Congress, and others, are gloating about TMC’s loss,' says Rahul Gandhi

Election Results 2026 Live Updates: Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA secured a massive victory in West Bengal, Assam and Puducherry. TVK swept Tamil Nadu and UDF made a massive comeback in Kerala.

Counting of votes are still under way across West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Kerala and Puducherry. The Election Commission of India is yet to release official figures.

BJP pushes ahead in Bengal and Assam
Early trends from the Assembly election results indicated major political shifts across eastern and southern India, with the BJP emerging as a dominant force in West Bengal and Assam. In West Bengal, the BJP was leading in 109 seats, well ahead of the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), which was ahead in 63 constituencies according to Election Commission trends. The contest remained the centrepiece of Election 2026, marked by fierce campaigning over issues such as electoral rolls, alleged rigging and political polarisation.

Security remained tight across Bengal, with more than 2.5 lakh Central Armed Police Force personnel deployed alongside state police. BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari expressed confidence that the party would form the government, while the TMC leadership remained cautious as counting continued. In neighbouring Assam, chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma led the BJP to a commanding position, with the party ahead in 74 of the state’s 126 seats, while Congress trailed far behind at 23.

Vijay’s TVK stuns Tamil Nadu
Tamil Nadu delivered one of the biggest surprises of the election, with actor-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) making a dramatic electoral debut. The party was leading in 103 seats, putting it ahead of both the AIADMK and the ruling DMK. The AIADMK was ahead in 67 seats, while the DMK slipped to third place with 38 seats, pointing to a major political churn in the state’s Dravidian landscape.

Congress gains ground in Kerala, NDA leads in Puducherry
Kerala offered a boost for the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF), which surged ahead in the counting trends. Congress was leading in 61 seats, while the CPI(M) and CPI were ahead in 29 and nine seats respectively. KPCC president Sunny Joseph described the trends as evidence of a strong pro-UDF wave. In Puducherry, the contest remained fragmented, with Congress and BJP tied at two seats each, while the All India NR Congress was leading in seven constituencies.

Elections Result 2026: Which regions may decide the final mandate in Tamil Nadu?
Tamil Nadu’s result may depend not only on statewide vote share but on how different regions vote seat by seat. The western belt, delta districts, Chennai and surrounding urban clusters, southern constituencies and industrial zones are expected to be key battlegrounds.

DMK and AIADMK both retain strong regional pockets, while TVK’s influence is being watched especially in urban and youth-heavy segments. In a close contest, even a swing in a few dozen seats can dramatically change the majority picture.

Analysts will track whether turnout patterns in cities differ from rural areas and whether local candidates outperform alliance trends. As counting progresses, district-level leads may offer the clearest clues to who eventually forms the next government.

Election Result 2026: From Mamata to Suvendu, key candidates in fray in West Bengal
As counting begins in West Bengal, several heavyweight candidates are under the spotlight, with their victories or defeats likely to define the state’s political direction. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s battle in Bhowanipore against BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari is the marquee contest, carrying both symbolic and strategic weight after their bitter Nandigram rivalry.

BJP veterans like Dilip Ghosh in Kharagpur Sadar and Arjun Singh in Noapara face crucial tests of their political relevance, while TMC leaders such as Aroop Biswas in Tollygunge are defending key urban turf. In Bagdah, the Thakur family face-off has made the Matua vote central once again.

Across Bengal, these candidate battles go beyond constituency lines, offering clues about leadership, local influence and whether voters favour continuity under TMC or a BJP-led shift.

Assembly Election Result 2026: Can Congress stop BJP’s push for a third term in Assam?
The Assam assembly election verdict is expected to test whether the Congress can stage a meaningful comeback against a BJP-led alliance that has dominated the state’s politics since 2016.

The BJP entered the election seeking a third straight term under chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, banking on welfare delivery, infrastructure projects and organisational strength across the state. The Congress, meanwhile, attempted to consolidate anti-incumbency sentiment and regional concerns, particularly in Upper Assam and minority-heavy constituencies.

Exit polls have projected a comfortable lead for the NDA, though opposition parties believe local contests could produce tighter margins than expected. A total of 722 candidates contested the election, including several prominent figures such as Sarma, Gaurav Gogoi, Debabrata Saikia, Badruddin Ajmal and Akhil Gogoi.

The results are also being watched closely for signs of whether the BJP can move closer to a standalone majority or will continue relying on alliance partners to govern Assam.

Election Results 2026: Can Vijay’s TVK convert momentum into seats in Tamil Nadu?
Tamil Nadu’s 2026 contest has been transformed by the entry of actor-politician Vijay and his party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. TVK positioned itself as an alternative to the long-dominant DMK-AIADMK political axis and drew strong attention among younger voters, first-time voters and urban constituencies. Exit polls have sharply differed on the party’s chances.

Some forecasts suggest a limited debut, while one major projection has indicated a much stronger performance. Even if TVK does not emerge as the largest force, it could still influence outcomes in tightly fought seats by changing vote equations.

Today’s counting will test whether popularity and campaign buzz were enough to build booth-level strength and convert public interest into a meaningful electoral breakthrough.

Assembly Election Results 2026: What are the key constituencies that can decide the Kerala’s political fate
As Kerala awaits for the results, attention is sharply focused on several key constituencies that could determine the balance of power between the ruling LDF, opposition UDF and the BJP-led NDA. Counting trends from these battleground seats are expected to set the tone for the final outcome.

High-profile constituencies such as Dharmadam in Kannur, a key LDF stronghold in north Kerala and Paravur in Ernakulam, a crucial UDF base in central Kerala, are being closely tracked for early indications of voter mood. Peravoor in Kannur is also under watch as a tightly fought prestige seat.

Meanwhile, triangular contests in Nemom in Thiruvananthapuram, Palakkad in central Kerala and Vattiyoorkavu in the state capital region are expected to be closely fought. Volatile constituencies like Thrissur and Manjeshwaram in the northern belt are also seen as potential game-changers in Kerala’s closely contested electoral battle.

Assembly Election Result 2026: SIR row, high turnout set stage for Bengal verdict
West Bengal’s 2026 election has been shaped as much by political narratives as by voter numbers. More than 6.8 crore people voted across two phases, but turnout discussions were overshadowed by controversy surrounding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, which removed nearly 90 lakh names.

The Election Commission defended the move, while the TMC called it targeted disenfranchisement. BJP, meanwhile, used the issue to sharpen its campaign around governance and electoral integrity. Mamata Banerjee focused heavily on Bengali identity and welfare politics, while BJP targeted corruption and law-and-order concerns.

This charged backdrop has made forecasting unusually difficult. As counting unfolds, Bengal’s verdict will also be seen as a judgment on these competing narratives.

Elections Result 2026: From Jalukbari to Jorhat - key battlegrounds in Assam’s high-stakes verdict
Several high-profile constituencies are at the centre of Assam’s assembly election results, with the outcome likely to shape the state’s political direction over the next five years. Chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s stronghold Jalukbari remains one of the BJP’s safest seats, while Jorhat has emerged as a closely watched contest because of Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi’s growing influence in Upper Assam.

Nazira and Sivasagar continue to be politically significant because of their history of tight contests and strong regional mobilisation. In the capital region, Dispur remains strategically important for the BJP, while constituencies such as Bokakhat, Kaliabor and Golaghat are being closely tracked because of the AGP’s influence.

The election campaign revolved around identity politics, welfare delivery, unemployment and regional aspirations, with both the NDA and Congress-led opposition claiming momentum heading into counting day. Exit polls, however, continue to place the BJP-led alliance ahead in the race for power.

Election Results 2026: 4.88 crore voters cast ballots in Tamil Nadu, where did record turnout go?
Tamil Nadu’s 2026 assembly election saw one of the biggest voter mobilisations in the state’s history, with 4,87,98,833 people, or 4.88 crore voters, casting ballots across all 234 constituencies.

The final turnout stood at 85.1 per cent, making it the highest-ever recorded participation in a state election. Women voters again outpaced men, extending a trend that has shaped recent Tamil Nadu elections.

The key question now is whether this record turnout has strengthened the ruling DMK-led alliance, revived AIADMK’s prospects, or created new space for Vijay’s TVK in its first major electoral outing.

Counting trends through the morning are expected to reveal whether voter enthusiasm translated into continuity, change, or a fractured verdict with tighter margins than expected.

Assembly Election Results 2026: What does Kerala's last verdict reveal?
As Kerala awaits for the results, data from the 2021 polls highlights a deeply competitive political landscape marked by narrow victory margins, fragmented vote shares and limited but consistent Nota usage. The Nota share stood at 0.47%, with nearly 97,695 voters opting for it, reflecting a stable but non-decisive protest trend.

Out of 140 constituencies, only 39 winners secured more than 50% votes, while 101 were elected with a minority share, underscoring the impact of multi-cornered contests. Victory margins were often slim, with two seats decided by under 500 votes and many others within 10%. Only a handful witnessed landslide wins.

Local body trends and constituency-level data ahead of 2026 suggest that even small vote swings could prove decisive in determining outcomes in Kerala’s closely fought electoral battleground.

Election Results 2026 Live: Tight tussle for Bengal between BJP and TMC
As West Bengal’s votes are counted, the state appears headed for one of its most unpredictable election outcomes in recent memory. Exit polls suggest a neck to neck fight between the ruling TMC and challenger BJP, with narrow seat swings likely to determine the final verdict.

The election has revolved around governance, welfare, corruption allegations and the politically charged Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls, which saw around 90 lakh names removed. While BJP has maintained this as electoral cleanup, TMC claims voter suppression.

With strongrooms under heavy guard and both parties monitoring every development, counting day could reshape Bengal’s political future. The biggest question remains whether Mamata Banerjee secures continuity or if Bengal witnesses its first major power shift in over a decade.

With 234 seats in play, the early lead tally will be closely watched for signs of momentum. If margins remain narrow, alliance partners and local factors may become decisive in several constituencies before the final result takes shape.
