ED to probe CD contents in Rajasthan Congress MLA's 'sextortion' case

NEW DELHI: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) will soon initiate an investigation under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act in a "sextortion" case filed by Rajasthan police in which three-time Congress MLA from Barmer, Mewaram Jain had alleged that he was being blackmailed, according tosources. The MLA has claimed that it was an old case after some pictures of him appeared on social media recently.

The Enforcement Directorate will look into the contents of a CD allegedly featuring Mewaram Jain and probe whether some people were trying to extort money from him.

The sextortion issue first surfaced in 2012 when the MLA approached the police and an FIR was registered based on his complaint that some local journalists were demanding Rs 10 lakh and had threatened to make the CD public if he didn't pay up.

Congress has nominated Mewaram Jain from the Barmer seat which he has won three times in a row by comfortable margins defeating his BJP rival.
