NEW DELHI: A magnitude 5.4 earthquake jolted Nepal on Saturday evening with tremors being felt across Delhi-NCR and other parts of north India.

Many users took to Twitter, saying they felt tremors around 7:57pm.

"An earthquake of magnitude 5.4 occurred in Nepal, at around 7:57pm, today. The depth of the earthquake was 10 km below the ground," the National Center for Seismology said.

An IMD official confirmed the quake originated in Nepal at a depth of 10 km with Latitude 29.28 N and Longitude 81.20 E.

In Uttarakhand, the tremors were felt in places including Pithoragarh, Munsiyari and Gangolihat.

"The origin of the earthquake was 10 km deep and 3 km from Silanga town of Nepal. The affected countries are India, China and Nepal," Pithoragarh Disaster Management Officer BS Mahar told news agency PTI.

There were no immediate reports of loss of life or damage to property.



This is the third time that earthquake has struck Nepal this week.

On Wednesday, a magnitude 6.3 quake had rocked Nepal, killing as many as 6 people and sending tremors across north India.

On Thursday, a 4.1-magnitude quake hit Nepal with its epicentre at Kada area in Khaptad Chhededaha rural municipality of Bajura district, situated 750 km from Kathmandu.
