NAGPUR: As the electoral battle heats up in Vidarbha, the ensuing Lok Sabha polls are poised to witness intense face-offs between Congress and BJP on six pivotal seats. Also, the intra-party dynamics within Shiv Sena further adds to the political intrigue with two factions led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Uddhav Thackeray clashing in two constituencies. In the remaining two, there’s a fight between Congress versus CM Shinde Sena in ‘Ramtek' and BJP versus NCP(Sharad) in Wardha.
Though there’s a direct fight between these major parties, Akola would once again witness a triangular fight due to Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi’s (VBA) Prakash Ambedkar. The three-pronged contest since last many elections is a fallout of the candidature of Ambedkar, who won the seat twice on Congress support.
BSP is most likely to emerge as a third player along with VBA as per the trend in 2014 and 2019 polls. Analysts predict that caste will play a key role in all these constituencies.
The two national parties are locked in an intense battle in Nagpur, Bhandara, Chandrapur and Gadchiroli, which will go to polls in the first phase on April 19. Amravati and Akola would also witness a direct fight between them when polling is held on April 26 in the second phase.
