NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday visited Lakhmipur in Assam and Kanthi in West Bengal, ahead of the assembly elections this month as he continues his widespread election campaigning in two crucial states for the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP).
Speaking at a rally in Lakhmipur, PM Modi referring to Congress forming an alliance with All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) said that the party has allied with people who favour infiltrators into the state.
"Congress is talking about handing Assam over such groups which symbolize discrimination against the original inhabitants of Assam," said the PM.
The alliance led by Congress, which is being called the 'mohajut', consists of Bodo People’s Front and the AIUDF. Targetting the non-BJP alliance, Modi said that this is not mohajut but "mahajhoot" (big lie).
Meanwhile, speaking at a rally in Kanthi, West Bengal, the PM said that chief minister Mamata Banerjee will be "shown the door" on May 2, the counting day of upcoming assembly elections in the state.
"Didi is talking about 'duare sarkar' (government at doorstep), but she will be shown the door on May 2," said PM Modi who has been extensively touring the poll-bound state ahead of assembly elections.
PM Modi criticized CM Banerjee over the use of relief sanctioned by the central government for cyclone Amphan victims in the state.
"Why are Amphan-struck people still forced to live under shattered roofs? Didi is nowhere to be seen when there is a need but when elections draw near, she says "sarkar duare-duare". This is their (TMC) khela," said the PM.
Highlights from PM Modi's speech at Kanthi:* This is a very crucial time for first-time voters and youth aged around 25 in Bengal. They have the responsibility to build the future of Bengal and thus, 'Ashol Poriborton' is the need of the hour.
* The relief sent by the Central govt got stuck in the nephew window. Today, the entire WB is asking - Who looted the relief material of Amphan? Who looted the foodgrains sent for the poor?
* Didi makes excuses every time she visits Medinipur. Didi could not respond to the families who were destroyed by Amphan and then plundered by the Trinamool's 'Tolabaz'.
* The relief that was sent by the central government here got stuck in the 'bhaipo window'.
Elections to the 294-member Bengal state assembly will be held in eight phases starting from March 27 with the final round of voting taking place on April 29. The counting of votes will take place on May 2.
Polling will be held in 47 seats in Assam on March 27 in the first phase, while 39 and 40 constituencies will go to polls on April 1 and April 6, respectively.
Highlights from PM Modi's speech at Assam:* I have come to wake you up today. Congress has joined hands with people who want to destroy the identity of Assam. Will you let this happen? Let your culture and tradition be destroyed?
* Congress wants to seize power in Assam on the vote bank of those groups which have flourished due to infiltration.
* The group that is known to discriminate against the original inhabitants of Assam, Congress is talking about handing Assam over to such people.
* Congress can do anything for power, it can become friends with anyone and it can betray anyone.
* This is not the "mahajyot" but "mahajhoot" of Congress.
* For decades, the Congress did nothing for the people working in the plantation. In 15 years of rule, these people were able to bring the wages of tea garden workers to around 100 rupees only.
* Today there is development in Assam, it is free from infiltrators.
* The poor people in every region of Assam have LPG gas connections. LPG coverage in Assam has increased from under 50% to nearly 100% in just 5 years.
