Proceedings adjourned following

The winter session of parliament began on Monday and will run till December 20, with discussions planned on various bills. Many bills including Waqf amendment bill, the disaster management bill, the railways (amendment) bill, the banking laws (amendment) bill, and the oilfields (regulation and development) amendment Bill and others were listed for the session.

'Hooliganism'

In his customary address PM Modi, criticized opposition before the session began and accussed them of trying to control Parliament by resorting to hooliganism. He said that the opposition’s primary goal appeared to be obstructing the functioning of Parliament rather than contributing to its progress.

INDIA bloc meeting

Before the parliament session began leaders of the INDIA bloc gathered at the office of Congress MP and Rajya Sabha Opposition Leader Mallikarjun Kharge to devise a coordinated strategy for Parliament. The opposition is likely to focus on raising the alleged bribery and fraud case linked to the Adani group, as well as call for a debate on the ongoing violence in Manipur.

Waqf board bill

The Waqf bill is also an important issue to be discussed by the parliament and passed once the joint committee of both Houses presents its report to the Lok Sabha. The committee is required to submit its report by the last day of the first week of the winter session.

Kiren Rijiju on Adani case

Reffering to the much attention gathering Adani case, parliamentery affairs minister Kiren Rijiju told reporters that the respective business advisory committees of the two Houses will decide on matters to be discussed with consent from Lok Sabha speaker and Rajya Sabha chairperson in the winter session.

Jagdeep Dhankar rejects notices

During the session, chairman Jagdeep Dhankar rejected 13 notices under Rule 267, including seven seeking a discussion on the US indictment related to an alleged $265 million bribery payment to government officials by Adani group.
