JAIPUR: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh alleged on Friday that the crisis of trust in Indian politics has deepened due to the Congress. He said because of the difference in the words and deeds of political leaders, the public's trust in the country's politics as well as its leaders has gradually eroded.
"Due to the difference in the words and deeds of leaders, the public's trust in Indian politics and its leaders has gradually eroded. And the crisis of trust in Indian politics has deepened due to the Congress," Singh said, addressing a public meeting in Rajsamand district of Rajasthan in support of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Deepti Maheshwari in the upcoming state Assembly polls.
Singh said Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP have taken the crisis of trust in Indian politics as a challenge.
The veteran BJP leader said everyone knows about the promises made by the ruling Congress in Rajasthan ahead of the 2018 Assembly polls and whether those were honoured or not.
He said whether it is an individual or an organisation, everyone should honour the promises they make and there should be no difference in their words and deeds.
Singh said whenever elections come, the Congress gives various kinds of assurances to people.
Referring to Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, he said, "Gehlot saab, I want to tell you and your leaders, (former Congress presidents) Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, that politics should not be done only to form the government, politics should be done to build the society, it should be done to build the country."
The defence minister also compared the Congress with the Pakistani team in the ongoing cricket World Cup. He said this election is no less than the World Cup.
"The condition of the Congress in Rajasthan has become like that of the Pakistani team in the World Cup. The Congress seems to be out of the tournament just at the start of the election, whereas the BJP is moving forward like a champion team like India," he said.
Referring to the "red diary" that Modi had talked about in his recent speeches, Singh said it contains a secret.
"A BJP government will be formed in the state and we will reveal that secret. What dark deeds are there in the red diary, we will find out then," he said.
The Gehlot government sacked minister Rajendra Gudha in July for targeting the state government in the Assembly over crime against women, following which Gudha claimed that he had a red diary that allegedly had details of the chief minister's irregular financial transactions.
Singh said the Gehlot government is trying to buy the honesty of the state's people by offering concessions on the price of LPG cylinders and distributing free mobile phones.
Addressing another public meeting in support of BJP candidate Kunwar Vishwaraj Singh, the defence minister said those in the Congress government in Rajasthan kept fighting for the entire tenure and people had to suffer.
Highlighting the law-and-order situation in the desert state, he said it is a matter of shame that an MLA of a ruling party had to say that she was not feeling safe.
He was apparently referring to Osian MLA Divya Maderna who had said she felt unsafe in the state.
The 200-member Rajasthan Assembly will go to polls on November 25 and the counting of votes will be taken up on December 3.
