Congress puts seat talks with allies on fast track

Congress put seat-sharing talks with its partners in the INDIA bloc on high priority and would begin meetings with member parties to discuss the fine print depending on their convenience, Congresss ‘national alliance committee’ member Mukul Wasnik said on Thursday.

The committee, which held a series of meetings with state leaders over the last week, presented its report to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi and organisation general secretary KC Venugopal. “We reported the feedback we received from states on how Congress should proceed with seat-sharing talks with INDIA bloc parties. We will now hold state-wise discussions and reach out to the parties to discuss seat-sharing arrangements,” Wasnik said.

Though Congress refused to set a deadline for the conclusion of seat-sharing talks, it said the Congress leadership was unanimous that this was high priority and crucial to setting up a challenge to BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Accusing BJP of raising emotive issues only to hide its failed governance, Kharge stressed on the need for party workers to sink their differences and focus on fighting BJP.
