Unidentified assailants fire at ex-serviceman's house in Punjab's Hoshiarpur, no casualties

Unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants opened fire at the house of a deceased ex-serviceman in Manolian village under the Mahilpur police station area in the early hours of Sunday, police said.

No casualties were reported. The attackers fired at least three rounds, with bullets hitting an inner wall of the house. Family members of late Subedar Sadhu Singh were sleeping inside at the time of the incident.

A police team has reached the spot and launched an investigation. CCTV footage from surrounding areas is being examined. Efforts are on to trace and arrest the assailants.

3 killed as car hits motorcycle on Hisar-Delhi highway

Three persons riding a motorcycle died after a car collided with their vehicle on the Hisar-Delhi National Highway, police said.

The incident took place near Anipura village, around 30 km from Hisar, in the early hours of the day, when the car coming from the Rohtak side collided with a motorcycle travelling in the opposite direction.

All three victims, aged between 35 and 40 years, were residents of Hansi district's Bhatla village, they said.

The bodies have been sent to the Hansi Civil Hospital for post-mortem, they said.

Man arrested on rape charge after minor gives birth in Jharkhand hospital

A 24-year-old man was arrested in Jharkhand's Giridih district on charges of rape after a teenage girl delivered a baby at a government hospital, police said on Sunday.

The 14-year-old girl gave birth to the baby in the bathroom of the hospital on Friday evening, prompting hospital staff to alert the police, they said.

"Based on the statement of the victim's father, an FIR was registered, and a close relative of the girl was arrested from the Bengabad police station area on Saturday," SDPO (Giridih Sadar) Jitvahan Oraon told PTI.

He said the girl's statement was recorded by a woman police officer, and a case was registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and various sections, including 64 (rape), of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The girl went to the bathroom soon after arriving at the hospital, where she delivered the baby girl, an official said.

She allegedly tried to leave the premises afterwards, but staff members stopped her and informed the police, he said.

Tiger kills woman, injures 4 near Madhya Pradesh's Bandhavgarh reserve; angry locals assault forest staff

A tiger strayed into a residential area near the Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh's Umaria district early on Sunday, mauling a woman to death and injuring four other persons, officials said.

The incident occurred around 3 am at Kherwa Tola locality in Panpatha village near the tiger reserve. The deceased has been identified as Phool Bai Pal (40).

Following the attack, angry locals allegedly assaulted a forest ranger and manhandled a woman staffer while protesting against repeated tiger attacks in the area. Villagers accused forest officials of failing to respond promptly despite repeated calls for help.

The protesters did not allow officials to take the body for post-mortem examination, delaying rescue operations for the big cat.

Forest teams have shifted the injured persons to hospital. Police security has been deployed in the village.
