BMW hit and run case: Woman dies, Shiv Sena leader’s son under scrutiny

​Woman lost her life after accident

In a tragic incident early Sunday morning, Kaveri Nakhwa, 45, a resident of Worli Koliwada lost her life when a speeding BMW struck the bike she was riding with her husband. The couple, both fishers, were on their way to fetch fish when the accident occurred around 5:30 am, between Atria Mall in Worli and the beginning of the coastal road.

​BMW, in high speed, collided with the bike

Sources say that the BMW was being driven at a high speed when it collided with the couple's bike. The husband fell to one side with the bike, while his wife was thrown onto the bonnet. Kaveri Nakhwa was rushed to Nair hospital but unfortunately died during treatment, while the man was injured but survived.

Mihir Shah under scrutiny

Following the incident, the driver of the BMW fled the scene. The BMW was reportedly driven by Mihir Shah, the son of Rajesh Shah, a Shiv Sena leader from Palghar. ​FIR registered against Mihir Shah

​Accused run away in auto rickshaws

According to sources, there were two people in the car. "We have detained the driver and are searching for another person," said a police officer. After the accident, Shah allegedly drove the car till Kala Nagar in Bandra East. They abandoned the car and left in two different auto rickshaws. Police found the vehicle and brought it to the police station.

CM Eknath Sh​inde assured justice

Chief minister Eknath Shinde emphasised that no one will be spared in the hit-and-run case in Worli. "All shall be treated equally before the law, whether they are office bearers or workers of any party. We stand for equality before the government and law. Therefore, we will not give any different justice to the incident that happened in Worli; justice will be served according to the law,” said Shinde. (Photo: PTI)

​RTO officers to conduct an examination

The vehicle has been seized, and the police have informed RTO officers to conduct an examination. Legal proceedings are underway, and a medical test will determine if the driver was under the influence of alcohol.

​No arrests till now

The Worli police have detained Rajendra Singh Bidawat, who was present in the car along with the father of the suspect, Rajesh Shah, and are currently questioning them. Mihir Shah, however, remains absconding. As of now, no arrests have been made in this case, said Worli Police.
