Basavaraj Bommai: All you need to know about Karnataka's next chief minister

NEW DELHI: Karnataka Chief Minister designate Basavaraj Somappa Bommai, a

Yediyurappa

loyalist, who has his origins in the Janata Parivar, will script history in being part of a father-son duo to have led the state on different occasions.

Previously JDS Supremo H D Deve Gowda and his son Kumaraswamy have been CMs during different periods.

Here's all you need to know about the next chief minister of Karnataka:-
- Bommai represents the Shiggaon constituency in the Haveri district.

- He was the home, law and parliamentary affairs minister in Yediyurappa's cabinet.



- The 61 year-old leader also belongs to Veerashaiva-Lingayat community, just like his predecessor Yediyurappa.

- He comes from a political family. Bommai is the son of late former chief minister

, who held office from 1988–1989.



- He has previously served as minister of water resources and cooperation.

- Bommai, considered a close confidant of Yediyurappa, started his political career with Janata Dal.

- He joined BJP in 2008.



- Bommai is a graduate in Mechanical engineering and worked with Tata Motors in Pune for three years.

- He is also widely appreciated for his knowledge regarding irrigation projects in the state.
