NEW DELHI: Eight people, including 5 children, lost their lives when the vehicle they were traveling in plunged into a gorge along the Simthan-Kokernag Road near Anantnag district in Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday. A policeman, two women and five children aged between six and 16 are among the dead, said officials.
The accident occurred as the vehicle was en route from Madwah Kishtwar, and the driver reportedly lost control.
The tragic incident follows another recent accident in which six people died in two separate road mishaps in the Union Territory's Rajouri and Reasi districts. On July 21, a taxi carrying eight passengers fell off a hilly road near Chalan village in Rajouri, as reported by PTI. Three people were killed.
In another accident, a car with four members of a family fell into a gorge in Reasi district, resulting in the death of three individuals.
