NEW DELHI: Ajay Chadha, special secretary (internal security) in the home ministry, has been appointed chief of the
Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP). He took charge from additional DG Mahboob Alam, who held additional charge of the force after former
ITBP DG Ranjit Sinha’s transfer as CBI chief.
A 1977 batch IPS officer of the Union Territory cadre, Chadha was recently in the reckoning to become Delhi Police commissioner but lost to Neeraj Kumar.
A physics honours graduate and LLB, Chadha has served in the Delhi Police, Arunachal Pradesh and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
Chadha played an important role in the successful conduct of Commonwealth Games 2010 as special commissioner (traffic). He has also served as joint secretary (security) in Parliament House. He has also had experience of working as director in ministries of urban development and defence.
