4 kg gold biscuits, 1 kg opium, Rs 20 lakh in cash recovered in Punjab

BATHINDA: The Bathinda police on Saturday raided the house of a relative of a suspended executive engineer of Bathinda development Authority and recovered four kg of gold biscuits, one kg opium and Rs 20 lakh cash.
IG (Bathinda range) Nirmal Singh Dhillon, Bathinda SSP SS Gill were also present during the raid at the house of Gurjeet Singh, a close relative of Joginder Singh Mann, in Quila road.
Mann was arrested by police and later suspended in July for his alleged involvement in a Rs 20 crore scam in the BDA in Mansa district. He was posted in Mansa before he was suspended and is presently behind bars.
Mann had allegedly allotted many work tenders to his close associates without permission.
On getting complaint, a vigilance inquiry was ordered by the government to probe into the matter. During enquiry, vigilance found the allegation true, registered complaints and arrested the accused Joginder Singh Mann and send him to jail earlier. He has been alleged for scam in more than Rs 20 crore development works.
IG Nirmal Singh Dhillon had told that on Saturday, police got information about opium. He conducted raid with SSP and other officials of the department at the residence of Gurjeet Singh, a close relative of the accused executive engineer. During search operation, police recovered one kg opium with four kg gold biscuits and Rs 20 lakh in cash.
IG Nirmal Singh said Gurjeet Singh was close relative of the accused Joginder Singh Mann. He told that Joginder Singh used Gurdeep's residence to keep his extortion money and other articles. IG told that more recovery possible after arrest of Gurjeet Singh.
