21 from upper caste, 20 OBCs in Yogi's new team

LUCKNOW: Perform or perish is the clear message from Yogi Government 2.0. Even though CM Yogi Adityanath didn't hesitate in dropping some big names from his previous government, he did keep in mind the caste, region and

Lok Sabha

elections 2024 while selecting MLAs for ministerial berths. In all, 32 new faces were inducted in the ministry.

The caste breakup of the 52 ministers shows a rainbow collection - 21 are from upper caste, 20 OBC, eight Dalits, one ST, one Sunni Muslim, and one Sikh. Out of the 21 upper caste ministers, seven are

Brahmins

, six

Thakurs

, two Bhumihars, five Vaishyas, and one Kayastha.

Among the OBCs, there are four Kurmis, three Jats, two Nishads, two Lodhis and one each from Maurya, Gaderia,

Saini

, Gurjar, Teli, Rajbhar, Yadav, Kumhar, and

Kashyap

sub-castes.

Dalits also have been given a good share of eight berths. While OBCs - mainly Kashyaps, Rajbhars, Saini, Kushwahas - consolidated across the state to give the BJP an upper hand in this election,

Jatavs

also shifted to BJP. This has given hope to the party that Jatavs could be the next big chunk of vote bank that BJP could bring to its fold before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Besides Jatavs, other sub-castes of Dalits, too, have got a fair representation in the ministry. The regional balance, too, has been kept in mind as OBCs from west, central and east have good representation in the Yogi cabinet.
