Sources said under this new scheme, the investment in each station will be in the range of Rs 10 to Rs 20 crore and the works can be completed in a year or maximum one-and-a-half years. According to the plan, 15 stations in each of the 68 divisions will be taken up for revamp. This is in addition to the railway’s ambitious plan to renovate 200 large stations under its station redevelopment programme currently underway.

A special fund will also be earmarked with the divisional railway managers for this purpose. As per the scheme, it aims at preparing master plans of railway stations and implementing those in phases to enhance facilities including and beyond the minimum essential amenities and aim for the creation of roof plazas and city centres at stations.

Khurda station was modernised for Rs 4 crore with all contemporary amenities for passengers. The main structure was renovated, the facade was redone and the number of railway tracks was also increased.
