Universidade de São Paulo (USP) is one of the most prestigious higher education and research institutions in Latin America. USP is one of the largest universities in Brazil.
Upon unification of several pre-existing schools, the USP was was founded in 1934 though its law school was established in 1827. USP is the largest public university in Brazil. As a public university the USP does not charge tuition fees.
Currently the USP has more than 90,000 students. It has 11 campuses spread over eight cities — Bauru, Lorena, Piracicaba, Pirassununga, Ribeirão Preto, São Carlos, Santos and São Paulo.
Every year, around 1,30,000 candidates apply for admissions in the university out of which only 11,000 new students get admission per year in the undergraduate courses.
