Why did Kate Middleton call herself ‘Catarina’? Royal’s Italy visit sparks attention
Royal news is often about big events, but sometimes it is the smallest moments that get the most attention. That is exactly what happened during Kate Middleton’s recent visit to Italy, where a simple interaction with children turned into a talking point online.
Kate Middleton visited Reggio Emilia as part of her focus on early childhood learning and development. The meeting with children was part of this wider program.
During the interaction, she spoke in Italian and introduced herself in a slightly different way.
PEOPLE, citing the Daily Mail, reported that she said, “I speak a bit of Italian. What is your name? I am Catarina.”
The name “Catarina” is a variation of her own first name, Catherine.
The interaction was kept very basic as the children were very young, around 3 to 5 years old. The focus was on simple questions and easy conversation.
As mentioned in the report, one of the children, Alice, shared her experience and said, “She asked my name in Italian. She spoke Italian very well.”
A teacher who was present also commented on the interaction.
According to the report, teacher Roberta Marzi said, “She asked them some simple questions, but her Italian was perfect. She spoke clearly.”
The Italy visit is connected to her ongoing work through the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood. The aim is to understand and support early learning systems.
As mentioned in the report, an aide explained the importance of this visit and said, “This is an important step in the princess’s recovery journey. She takes great joy from this work.”
The aide also added, “I think it is only right that her first international trip since her illness is one that is focused on an issue she is committed to championing for decades to come.”
