The special Aadhaar for children below 5

Aadhaar, issued by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), assigns a 12-digit unique identification number to every Indian resident. This number is linked to both demographic and biometric data, serving as a reliable proof of identity and address. Aadhaar facilitates access to a range of government schemes and services, streamlining processes and enhancing efficiency in service delivery.

However, Aadhaar is not only for adults, but also for children. In 2018, UIDAI introduced the concept of Blue Aadhaar, or Baal Aadhaar, which is a special Aadhaar card for children below the age of five years. As the name suggests, the Blue Aadhaar card is blue in colour, unlike the regular white Aadhaar card for adults. The Blue Aadhaar card has some unique features and benefits, which make it important for parents and guardians to enroll their children for it. Here are some of the key aspects of the Blue Aadhaar card:

How to apply for Blue Aadhaar card?

To apply for the Blue Aadhaar card, the parents or guardians need to visit the nearest Aadhaar enrolment centre with their child and their own Aadhaar card. They need to fill the Aadhaar enrolment form and provide the child’s birth certificate or any other proof of date of birth. They also need to provide their own Aadhaar number, which will be linked to the child’s Aadhaar number. The child’s photograph will be captured at the enrolment centre, but no biometric data will be taken, as the child’s fingerprints and iris scans are not stable at this age. The enrolment process is free of cost and the Blue Aadhaar card will be sent to the registered address within 90 days.

The child also needs to update his or her Aadhaar card again at the age of 15 years, as the biometric data may change during the growth and development of the child.
