‘This is my first salary after IIM’: Son flies home with cash for parents, leaves internet emotional

These days, salaries don't arrive in envelopes. They show up as a bank notification, a text message, or a quick glance at your account balance. Practical? Sure. But not exactly something you'll remember years later.

That's probably why Ashwajeet Kamble decided to do something a little different.

Instead of simply transferring money or mentioning his salary over a phone call, the IIM graduate boarded a flight to Pune with one goal in mind - handing his parents his first post-IIM salary in cash.

The moment, captured on video and shared on Instagram, has now struck a chord with thousands online.

The idea wasn't random.

A few months earlier, Kamble had been chatting with his father about how things used to be. During the conversation, his father recalled receiving his first salary in cash and proudly placing it in his parents' hands.

It's a memory many Indians from older generations share.

Back then, payday wasn't just about earning money. It was about taking that first step into adulthood and thanking the people who helped you get there.

But in today's world of UPI payments, salary credits and online banking, those moments have almost disappeared.

That conversation stayed with Kamble.

"A few months ago me and my dad were discussing how he gave his first cash salary to his parents... and also how things have been digitalised now-a-days and we can't do the same anymore," he wrote.

So he decided to recreate that feeling.

Not because he had to.

Simply because he wanted his parents to have that memory too.

"Why not do this, as a memory for them? Because after all... what I am is all because of them," he said.

Technically, it wasn't his first-ever salary.

But it felt like the beginning of a new chapter.

"I know this is technically not my first salary, but this is my first salary after IIM... so it counts, right?" he joked.

The video shows a simple family moment. No grand gestures. No dramatic speeches.

Just a son handing over an envelope and parents trying to process what it means.

That's exactly why people connected with it.

One person wrote, "It's good that you chose cash over transfer. The feel and touch of money is something not everyone will understand."

Another commented, "As a mother and a daughter, I can understand your and your mom's feelings. God bless."

But perhaps the most touching reaction came from someone who noticed what many others did too.

"Without the money also, aunty's reaction would have been the same. Her son came home to meet her."

And honestly, that's hard to argue with.

For most parents, the envelope was probably secondary.

Having their son walk through the door was the real gift.

As the video spread online, viewers also became curious about another person seen standing alongside the family.

It turned out there was another story of perseverance unfolding in the same household.

Kamble revealed that the man in the video is his elder brother, who recently cleared the UPSC examination and joined the Indian Forest Service.

The achievement came after nearly six years of preparation, setbacks, failed attempts and relentless effort.

There were times when the journey felt uncertain.

As the elder sibling, he often felt the pressure of not earning while preparing for one of India's toughest examinations. But the family never stopped backing him.

Everyone kept believing.

Kamble was fighting his own battles too.

He shared that his early career earnings were modest, and since his father remained the family's primary source of income, he looked for additional ways to contribute.

So he took on freelance work.

Video editing projects. 3D design assignments. Engineering-related gigs. Whatever came his way.

Looking back now, he says the viral video represents far more than a salary handover.

It's really a story about a family that kept showing up for one another.

Years of sacrifices.

Years of encouragement.

Years of believing that the struggle would eventually be worth it.

"Looking back, the video represents much more than a salary handover," Kamble said.

"It reflects years of sacrifices, mutual support, and the belief we had in each other's dreams."

Maybe that's why the video has resonated with so many people.

On the surface, it's just a son handing over an envelope filled with cash.

But underneath, it's about every parent who quietly sacrifices for their children. Every sibling who keeps going despite setbacks. And every family that continues believing, even when success feels far away.
