IAS officer Tina Dabi, the 2015 UPSC topper and current District Collector of Barmer, Rajasthan, is making headlines again for her proactive efforts to improve the city's cleanliness. Previously, she gained attention for applauding Sarpanch Sonu Kanwar’s impressive English speech at a public event.

Now, Dabi has launched the “Navo Barmer” initiative, a campaign focused on making Barmer cleaner and more hygienic. As part of the initiative, she conducted inspections at Kisan Market, educating shopkeepers about the importance of maintaining cleanliness.

In viral videos shared on X, Dabi is seen giving stern warnings to shop owners, urging them to comply with cleanliness regulations and threatening fines or even shop closures for those who fail to cooperate.




Navo Barmer: A cleanliness initiative


The “Navo Barmer” initiative, spearheaded by Dabi, focuses on transforming Barmer into a cleaner and more sustainable city. The drive includes raising awareness among shopkeepers, street vendors, and the general public about the importance of cleanliness. As part of the campaign, Dabi personally inspected Kisan Market to ensure compliance with cleanliness standards.

Tina Dabi gives strict warnings to shopkeepers


During the inspection, videos captured Dabi reprimanding shopkeepers who were caught littering or improperly disposing of waste. In one instance, she warned a shopkeeper: “You all are throwing things in the drain and here and there. I will get this shop closed… This is not a place to throw garbage.” She made it clear that if shopkeepers failed to maintain cleanliness, they could face fines or even have their shops shut down.

Dabi urged all shopkeepers to place dustbins in front of their shops, emphasising that cleanliness is a shared responsibility. She told the vendors, “You all are throwing things in the drain and here and there. I will get this shop closed…This is not a place to throw garbage. Right now, I am getting the garbage removed. I will come again after two days to see. I should see big dustbins in front of every shop here. All of you can buy one dustbin each. It is not a matter of shame to clean the area in front of your shop.”



In another video, Dabi was seen warning a shopkeeper who had been throwing waste in the drain. She announced over a microphone, “If there is no dustbin from tomorrow, the shop will be closed. Proper dustbins are needed to throw garbage. You will be fined Rs. 500 if we find garbage here tomorrow. And if you cannot arrange for a dustbin, tell us and we will provide you with one,” The IAS officer was heard saying in the video.

Cleanliness campaign and garbage collection


As per the News18 report, Dabi’s 12-hour cleanliness campaign didn’t stop at warnings. With the help of JCB machines, large piles of garbage that had accumulated on the roadside were removed, ensuring cleaner streets. Her hands-on approach has drawn public attention and praise for tackling the city's waste problem directly.
