Farmers in Uttar Pradesh have come up with a unique solution to deter monkeys from damaging their crops. Instead of relying solely on scarecrows, these farmers have taken to wearing monkey costumes themselves. By dressing as wild beasts, they hope to scare away the monkeys and protect the fruits of their hard work.
Gajendra Singh, a farmer in the area, explained that there were approximately 40 monkeys causing trouble by damaging crops.
Despite appealing to the authorities for assistance, their pleas went unanswered. As a result, the farmers decided to pool their resources and purchase a bear costume to ward off the monkeys. Recently, pictures emerged on social media showing men in bear costumes bravely standing before the camera.
One Twitter user who witnessed the farmers' struggle remarked that they had a lot to bear in this country, facing not only high prices and challenging weather but also the nuisance of stray cattle and now mischievous monkeys.
This is not the first instance where farmers have resorted to unconventional methods to protect their fields. In March of last year, a farmer from Telangana gained media attention when he donned a beast-like costume to safeguard his land. Initially, his sons took turns wearing the costume and patrolling the fields, but he eventually hired someone to stay in the field all day, dressed as a bear, to deter animals from causing further damage.
People on Twitter, however, found amusement in this unconventional approach adopted by farmers. One user commented, "Adipurush, take notes!" referring to a popular film. Another user suggested, "Leopards are the natural predators of monkeys, not bears. Dress up as a leopard instead." Adding a touch of humour, a different user shared a meme featuring a man wearing a bear costume on an album cover, stating, "This one goes hard as an album cover!"
