Merit took a backseat: Tollywood calls for fairplay at crucial meet
There was joy in working in this industry, but over the years many of us were forced to compromise. I did it as well, keeping the future of my newborn child in mind. No one should have to face this
Call to action
We will place the concerns of all industry members before the government. Many said they were, for years, forced into political glorification for survival, and that this was the first time they could speak freely
Actor Parambrata Chattopadhyay said “our primary profession should be cinema” and not political ideology, while filmmaker Srijit Mukherji maintained that disagreements within the industry should be resolved through dialogue, asserting that “banning someone cannot be the solution”. Several others from the industry also spoke about restrictive rules, dwindling opportunities and an environment that deeply affected Tollywood. Many also alleged that fear of professional isolation and loss of work had prevented several industry insiders from speaking up.
Artistes, technicians and guild representatives must resolve issues together. No rule should unfairly benefit one side because nobody here is anyone’s enemy
