Almost two decades after Pawan Kalyan's iconic love story, which began a run of blockbusters for the Power Star, '

"The film has absolutely no similarities with Kalyan babu's movie. That was an iconic film in this genre and we wouldn't dare to imitate anything from it. But we felt that the title 'Tholi Prema' is apt for the kind of film that we're trying to make," Varun shares.

The actor, who's basking in the success of 'Fidaa' feels that this is another film that will strike a chord with the youth. "I play a typical, aggressive youngster and my character has the potential to connect with a lot of college-goers," he says.

The film's teaser has been one of the most viewed on social media in recent times, with over 4 million views on YouTube. There are also rushes from the trailer which has a striking similarity with Bollywood films like 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham' and 'Jab We Met'. Varun, however, detests the comparison.
"I don't know whether this is going to be the next 'Jab We Met' or 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani', but it's certainly going to be the first-of-its-kind in Telugu cinema. It's going to be very upscale, colourful and urban love story," shares the actor, who had also featured in the national award-winning film 'Kanche'.

Varun has generally tend to steer clear of run-of-the-mill stories, and the actor feels that he has drawn inspiration from Hollywood films. "I would watch Hollywood and Bollywood films and wonder why such movies aren't being made here. So somewhere, I'm attempting to bring something different to the industry through my films," the 28-year-old expresses.

Varun, whose next is a sci-fi film with Sankalp Reddy, says it's a good time to work in the Telugu film industry.
"Tollywood has emerged as a platform for good stories. If you make a good film, it has the potential to do well. So I can be here in Tollywood and still make good movies. It's quite an exciting time for us," he signs off.
