Telugu films that released on OTT platforms in 2021

Film releases have been stalled due to the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic this year, and filmmakers across the world considered a direct-to-OTT release. Many of them have signed their deal with streaming giants, while others were awaited contemplating about the respective releases. On that note, here’s looking at some Tollywood films that were released on OTT platforms in 2021.

Drushyam 2: The Resumption

Daggubati Venkatesh’s much-anticipated film, 'Drushyam 2: The Resumption' was released on an OTT on November 25 this year. The film, directed by Jeethu Joseph, was supposed to hit the screens in May. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the film could not see the light of the day. The film is jointly produced by D Suresh Babu, Antony Perumbavoor and Rajkumar Sethupathi under the banner of Suresh Productions in association with Max Movies and Rajkumar Theatres.

Narappa

The theatrical release of Daggubati Venkatesh’s 'Narappa' has already been pushed back multiple times. Earlier, the film was slated for release on May 14. However, the producers postponed the release citing the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in India. Hence, the makers had decided to release the film on OTT. It started streaming on the OTT on July 20, 2021. 'Narappa' was directed by Srikanth Addala and produced by Suresh Productions and V Creations.

Tuck Jagadish

Nani joined hands with director Shiva Nirvana for the second time for 'Tuck Jagadish.' Before this film, Nani and Shiva had worked on the critically-acclaimed film, Ninnu Kori. Also starring Ritu Varma, Aishwarya Rajesh and Jagapathi Babu, the film had an OTT release on September 10, 2021. Tuck Jagadish’s release date in theatres was supposed to be April 16. However, theatres across the country are shut again due to the second wave of the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Maestro

Nithiin’s 'Maestro' featured him playing the role of the blind. Directed by Merlapaka Gandhi, the film was directly released on an OTT on September 17 this year. Bankrolled by Shresht Movies, the film also starred Nabha Natesh, Tamannaah Bhatia, Jisshu Sengupta, Naresh, Sreemukhi and others. Maestro’s technical crew includes cinematographer J Yuvaraj, editor SR Sekhar and musician Mahati Swara Sagar.

Ek Mini Katha

Originally meant for a theatrical release, this Santosh Shoban and Kavya Thapar starrer started streaming on May 27, 2021. The Karthik Rapolu directorial was supposed to be witnessed on the big screen. However, the pandemic led to an online release. Ek Mini Katha’s technical team includes composer Pravin Lakkaraju, cinematographer Gokul Bharathi and editor G Satya.

Vivaha Bhojanambu

The comedy-drama starring Satya, Aarjavee Raj, Srikanth Iyyengar, Sudarshan, Subbaraya Sharma, Harsha Chemudu, Sivannarayana Naripeddi was unable to experience a theatrical release. However, it was released digitally on August 27 this year. The film was directed by Ram Abbaraju and produced by Anandi Art Creations and Soldiers Factory.

Adbhutham

The film marked the debut of Shivani Rajashekhar. Starring Teja Sajja in the lead, the film was directed by Mallik Ram and produced by Mahateja Creations and S Originals. It was supposed to release in theatres across the world this year. However, its release was delayed owing to technical issues and released on an OTT on November 19.

Thank You Brother

'Thank You Brother' directed by Ramesh Raparthi and starring Anasuya Bharadwaj, Viraj Ashwin, Mounika Reddy, Anish Kuruvilla, Harsha Chemudu and Aadarsh Balakrishna was supposed to be witnessed on the big screens. However, the pandemic led to an online release on May 7, 2021. With a nail-biting storyline, it makes for a perfect family watch.

Cinema Bandi

Starring debutants Vikas Vasishta, Sandeep Varanasi and Rag Mayur, this film also skipped a theatrical release and but was made available on an OTT on May 14, 2021. 'Cinema Bandi' was directed by Praveen Kandregula and produced by Raj Nidimoru and Krishna D.K. under the banner of D2R Indie. The comedy-drama has become a hit on OTT.

Aakashavaani

'Aakashavaani' starring Samuthirakani, Vinay Varma, Teja Kakumanu, and Prashant had been eyeing a theatrical release since last year. However, the release has been stalled for months due to the coronavirus pandemic. It was originally scheduled to release on June 4, skipped the theatrical release and was released on the OTT platform on September 24.
