Samantha Akkineni shares a glimpse from the sets of Gunasekhar's Shaakuntalam

Gunasekhar’s Samantha Akkineni starrer

Shaakuntalam

has gone on-floors after the second wave of coronavirus subsided in the country.

Sharing pictures that indicate the actress is back on-set, she wrote, “Work progress #Shaakuntalam. (sic)” In one of the pictures, she can be seen in her vanity, dressed in a tee-shirt and covering up her makeup with a

mask

. In another, she gives a glimpse of just how grand the

set

would be like, sharing a picture of a lion statue with an intricate backdrop. Looks like the actress took part in a night shoot and key scenes involving her were filmed during it. It remains to be seen how long this schedule will be.


Directed by Gunasekhar with Sai Madhav Burra penning the dialogues, Shaakuntalam is based on Sakuntala by Kalidasa. Samantha plays the titular role in the film while Dev Mohan plays Dushyant, Mohan Babu plays Durvasa Maharishi and Aditi Balan plays a key role. The

film might also see Jr NTR’s son Abhay Ram or Allu Arjun’s son Ayaan make their debut as Shakuntala’s son Bharata, state reports. While announced in October 2020, filming commenced from February 2021 in Hyderabad. There was a break in-between due to the rising number of coronavirus cases. Mani Sharma will compose the tunes for Shaakuntalam, further details are awaited.
