Sai Dharam Tej’s accident took place due to overspeeding and reckless driving: Police

Even as actor Sai Dharam Tej remains in the ICU as he recovers from injuries sustained in a road accident, Cyberabad police have said that the accident took place due to overspeeding and negligence. A case under sections 336 and 279 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 184 of Motor Vehicles Act was registered against him at the

on Saturday. While wishing the actor a speedy recovery, police officials said that the incident would not have happened had he exercised caution and drove the vehicle within the permissible speed limits.

“After scanning the CCTV footage, based on the analysis of the evidence at the scene of the incident and on the calculation of the average speed, it has been found that the bike was driven at an average speed of around 75 kmph near the accident spot. This is beyond the permissible speed limit on the road, which is 30 to 40 kmph,” explains CH

. Police officials added that the CCTV footage showed the actor driving at a speed of 100kmph on the Durgam Cheruvu cable bridge and recklessly overtaking other vehicles.

According to cops, Sai Dharam Tej seems to have purchased the vehicle from Bura Anil Kumar, a resident of

LB Nagar

, and has not gotten it registered in his name till now. He also was not carrying a valid license to drive such a vehicle on city roads. “In our primary investigation, it has been found that the actor was not carrying a valid driving license to ride that sports bike. The license that he holds permits him to drive only light motor vehicles. However, before we file a case against him, we want to find out whether Sai Dharam Tej possesses the valid license to drive a motorcycle with gears on public roads. His family has asked for some time to provide the necessary documents,” Raghunandan Rao said.

“Based on the evidence, it is clear that overspeeding and reckless driving caused Sai Dharam Tej’s accident,” he added.


Sai Dharam Tej undergoes surgery for collar bone fracture
On Sunday, hospital authorities said that the actor is recovering after a surgery was performed for his collar bone injury. “Sai Dharam Tej is stable and improving. The procedure for collar bone fracture has successfully been completed by our multidisciplinary team of experts. He will continue to be under observation,” read a statement from the hospital authorities. Hospital officials say that the actor could remain in ICU for a couple of days. “He is heavily sedated as a result of the surgical procedure. He will stay in the ICU for the whole of Sunday and a decision will be taken on Monday if he should be shifted to a room, based on his response to the treatment,” hospital sources said.
