Okkadu Migiladu

', starring Manchu Manoj and Anisha Ambrose in lead roles, has finally hit the screens today. The film is a story of Tamil Sri Lankan refugees and the atrocities inflicted on them on both sides of the border.

Manoj plays the role of a refugee leader-turned-Political Science PhD student named Peter/Surya. He and many others like him are always told that they belong neither in India nor Sri Lanka, hence are stuck with a refugee status. The first half starts off with him narrating his tale to an empathetic policeman (Posani Krishna Murali) after being framed in a cliché drug case.

The first half charts the journey of the man in India and Sri Lanka and the interval bangs, stopping right before Manoj decides to stay back in the island country, while his clan escapes to India via sea on a boat. The film however, has failed to let the sense of urgency and depravity come through. The viewers are being told a lot of things, which were not translated well on screen. There's only one scene that stands out so far. But with most of it already shown in the trailer, the surprise element is lost. It remains to be seen how the second half will fare.
