Mahesh Babu and SS Rajamouli’s 'SSMB29' to be released in 2 parts: Report

Tollywood star Mahesh Babu is busy working on his much-anticipated project with director SS Rajamouli. The movie, tentatively titled ‘SSMB29’, is expected to be another pan-Indian release from the director of ‘Baahubali’. Reports now state that the project, which is in its pre-production phase, is expected to be a two-part franchise.

According to Pinkvilla, the script for the movie has been finalised, and Mahesh has committed to his dates starting in January 2025. A source close to the movie stated that the film will be released in two parts, although an official confirmation regarding the same is still awaited.


Earlier, it was reported that the film’s budget would range between Rs 900-1000 crores, making it a massive project. The film's screenwriter, Vijayendra Prasad, who is also Rajamouli's father, shared that it took two years to develop the story. He also teased that the film will introduce an entirely new world for the audience, with the ‘Guntur Kaaram’ actor in a leading role. The movie is expected to be a “global feature.” The actor has limited his public appearances since beginning the shoot of the movie, in order to keep his look hidden from the public eye.

Though the full cast and crew have not yet been confirmed, there is speculation that international talent may be involved. Additionally, sources suggest that Mahesh’s character may be inspired by Lord Hanuman from Hindu mythology.

On the work front, Mahesh Babu was last seen in ‘Guntur Kaaram’, directed by Trivikram Srinivas. The movie faced a lukewarm reception at the box office, despite an ensemble cast including Sreeleela, Meenakshi Chaudhary, Prakash Raj, and others. Mahesh also recently lent his voice to the character Mufasa in the Telugu version of the Hollywood film ‘Mufasa: The Lion King’.
