'Lover' review highlights: Dreamy visuals and good music make for the clichéd plot

Directed by

Annish Krishna

, the Dil Raju production

Lover

charts the journey of a custom bike maker Raj (

Raj Tharun

). Devoid of his parents' love from childhood, he lives with his brother Jaggu (Rajeev Kanakala), sister-in-law and niece. While Jaggu likes to dwindle on the other side of law with his friend Sampath (Subbaraju), Raj makes an honest living with the hope of having a family of his own some day and giving his children the safe childhood he missed.

Charita

(Riddhi Kumar), a nurse, enters his life like a breath of fresh air. He curates technicolor dreams of marrying her some day in Malayali style (because she's Malayali), except, she doesn't exactly reciprocate his feelings. The fact that he has the subtlety of an elephant and does not understand the meaning of the word no doesn't help his case either. But of course, that changes with time.
Charita however seems to find herself embroiled in a deadly controversy. Who's out for her life and why is something that remains to be seen. Except, the first half of the film seems to have already let the cat out of the bag, unless they have another twist lined up after the interval that pretends to end on a cliffhanger. If not, the second half of Lover is going to be a predictable ride.
While the story offers nothing really novel so far, Raj Tharun and Riddhi Kumar offer good enough performances to hold the viewer's attention. Sameer Reddy's dreamy visuals and the music are definitely proving to be the plus points of this cliché ride.
