'Kalki 2898 AD' makers accuse distributors of financial malpractice in US-Europe

The mytho sci-fi drama film 'Kalki 2898 AD', directed by Nag Ashwin and featuring Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan became a sensation at the box office globally. However, the film's success has been overshadowed by a dispute between the producers and their US-European distributors regarding financial shares.

Recently, an email from the production house to the distributors was leaked on social media, revealing serious allegations of malpractice. According to the email, 'Kalki 2898 AD' reportedly earned around $1.3 million in the US and Europe. Despite this impressive figure, the producers claim they received only a Rs 5 crore advance and that their earnings from these regions have been withheld under the pretext of losses in Europe.

A source from Vyjayanthi Movies confirmed the authenticity of the leaked email to Hindustan Times. The source explained that the same distributors are responsible for both US and European markets and accused them of cheating the producers. They alleged that while the film grossed $1.3 million, the distributors now claim it made only Rs 3 crore, which contradicts the tracking reports.

The producers are frustrated as they have not received a response from the distributors regarding their claims. They have given an ultimatum for settling the outstanding dues within 48 hours before considering legal action. The email also mentioned concerns about malpractice related to billing for censoring and publicity expenses in these regions.

An official statement regarding the same has not been made by both the parties.
