Genelia D'Souza made her debut in the South Indian film industry with Boys opposite Siddharth. In the coming-of-age musical entertainer, Genelia played the role of a rich collegegoer Harini, who marries a youth named Munna against the wishes of her parents forced to earn for their studies and all. It was her first film opposite Siddharth. The actress delivered a power-packed performance as Harini. Despite being controversial when released, the Shankar directorial was a blockbuster hit at the box office.

Satyam

The Surya Kiran directorial was the first Telugu film of Genelia D'Souza, who essayed the role of a middle-class medical student Ankita. The film revolves around a budding writer Satyam who is always misunderstood by his father struggles to make a mark as a solo lyricist. Starring opposite Sumanth, both critics and the audience praised the actress for her phenomenal performance in the film, which was bankrolled by Akkineni Nagarjuna.

Starring Nithiin and Genelia D'Souza, the film was based on a rugby game. The reasons the film became close to people's hearts were the chemistry between the lead pair, and not to forget the quarrel between two rival student groups which gained a lot of attention back then. Bankrolled by Sri Bharathi Enterprises, the actress again grabbed the attention of the Telugu cinema audience with her performance in the film.

Bommarillu

Genelia had teamed up with Siddharth again for Bhaskar’s Bommarillu. Siddharth was excelling through his performance on one side, and Genelia, being a quirky young girl back then, did her best to fulfil the role. Her acting skills in the movie made her everyone's favourite actress, and that earned her a Nandi and Filmfare Awards in the Best Actress category. This film opposite Siddharth didn't just prove to be superhit but also marked as the turning point for the actress's career.

Ready has star Ram Pothineni in the leading role. Genelia D'Souza played the role of Ram Pothineni’s love interest in the film. The romantic comedy-drama was directed by Sreenu Vaitla and released in 2008. Ready was a music hit and one of the big films of Genelia’s career. Mere Sajnaa! song composed by Devi Sri Prasad is still remembered. The movie was a super hit at the box office, and Genelia mastered her character as Pooja.
