'Peddi' director Buchi Babu Sana apologizes to women, confirms edits to Janhvi Kapoor’s scenes: 'Never our intention to objectify'

Janhvi Kapoor’s portrayal in the latest Ram Charan starrer ‘Peddi’ has been receiving a lot of heat on the internet where viewers have called her role as Achiyamma reduced for visual appeal. After the backlash, director Buchi Babu Sana shared a public apology and revealed that changes would be made to the portions.

Buchi Babu Sana took to his X (formerly Twitter) handle to share a statement where he mentioned that his team listened to the feedback and understood the concerns raised by the audience.



“As a filmmaker, I believe cinema should entertain, inspire, and connect with audiences. It should never make anyone feel uncomfortable or disrespected. We have heard the feedback regarding certain scenes in Peddi and have taken it seriously. I have always had immense respect for women, both on and off screen, and it was never our intention to objectify or disrespect any female character. If any part of the film has been perceived that way, we respect those sentiments, understand the concerns being raised, and sincerely apologize,” he wrote.

Makers confirm changes will be made

The ‘Uppena’ director also confirmed that they will make changes to the concerned portions. “After reviewing the feedback, we have decided to make changes to the concerned portions. Cinema grows through its connection with audiences, and as storytellers, we have a responsibility to be mindful of evolving perspectives and sensitivities,” he added.

Concluding his statement he wrote, “Every woman deserves to be respected, valued, and represented with dignity. We remain committed to telling stories that celebrate strong characters and uphold those values. Thank you to everyone who shared their views honestly and sincerely.”

Speaking about the film, it is a sports drama starring Ram Charan in the lead role, with Janhvi Kapoor playing his love interest. The story follows a man who fights for his village and its identity while facing several challenges.

Talking about it’s box office, the film has collected over Rs 150 crore in two days globally. The film received positive to mixed reviews with fans hailing Ram Charan’s performance.
