Acclaimed Telugu director Vijaya Bapineedu is no more

Renowned director Gutta Bapineedu Chowdary

, popularly known as Vijay Bapineedu breathed his last on Tuesday in the city. He was 82 years old.

The veteran filmmaker helmed his first film

‘Dabbu Dabbu Dabbu’

in 1981. Starring Mohan Babu, Murali Mohan and Radhika Sarathkumar, the film went on to become a super hit at the box office. In a successful career spanning for nearly two decades, Vijay Bapineedu directed several blockbuster films like ‘Patnam Vachina Pativrathalu’ (1982), ‘Maga Maharaju’ (1983), ‘Mahanagaramlo Mayagadu’ (1984), ‘Magadheerudu’ (1986), ‘Khaidi No 786’ (1988), ‘Gang Leader’ (1991) and ‘Big Boss’ (1995). Before turning into a director, Vijaya Bapineedu worked as an editor for several magazines. Born on September 22, 1936, Bapineedu completed his BA in Mathematics at the CRR College in Eluru.
